Community Man Cave

May 28, 2014 - Larry Claypool
man cave noun Informal. A room or other area in a home that is primarily a male sanctuary, designed and furnished to accommodate the man's recreational activities, hobbies. Officially, that’s one dictionary’s version of a ‘man cave’. I offer you another version. It’s called Fin, Feather and Fur — the outdoor store. It’s one VERY LARGE man cave, actually four of them currently. Fin, Feather and Fur owner Mike Goschinski has built four such man caves in Ohio. He calls them retail stores though. I’d like to think they’re ‘community man caves’. I visited the new Youngstown (Boardman), OH, location to take photographs for my article, ‘Firearms and Fudge: Outdoor Stores Battle to be Your Destination’, in the most recent OVO magazine (Summer 2014), available on newsstands June 1. Will the new ‘super’ outdoor stores stick around or will your local ‘mom and pop’ shops prevail? Or can both survive? Let me know what you think. My email address is:
