Clearer Waters Ahead

May 24, 2011 - Larry Claypool
Yes most of the fishing waters in this region remain muddy from the monsoon-like spring we've had. From reading recent fishing reports, and my own experience, it's been some tough fishing though. I was able to pull a nice smallie out of Beaver Creek last Sunday. The creek was murky and running fast (nice for canoes and kayaks though). Clearer waters are ahead, right? Last week's weather enabled more fishermen to hit their favorite waters. The die-hards have been out for several weeks — the weather conditions were just less than desired. Anyway, some bait shops reported that business finally perked up last week, but the very slow start could really dent into profits this season. It's going to take a really good streak of nice weather for bait and tackle shops to recover. Let's hope they do. And hopefully fuel costs will stay in line.
