Geauga Bowmen Host First Bowfishing Derby

July 1, 2009
Ohio Valley Outdoors
RAVENNA, OH — The Geauga Bowmen Archery Club held its First Annual Bowfishing Derby at West Branch State Park on May 16th. The turnout was small, most likely because of the call for bad weather, but 20 archers hit the back waters on the west end of the lake shortly after 8:00 a.m.

The pre-spawn activity made it a challenge to find the fish.  A brief downpour made for an early weigh-in and there was time for photos. Ian Bacon, a 4-H archer, took the top award for biggest fish with a 13-pounder. Denny Livezey won largest catch honors with seven fish. Scott Lynch and Scott Weaver tied for the smallest fish.
