That one statement from the owner of Black Widow Deer Lures says a lot. It says a lot about Andy Bogulski, and the products he offers. It also shows how much Bogulski cares about his “fellow hunters” and his business, which has grown to be one of the most talked about in the industry.
Talk hasn’t built Bogulski’s company though. Results have. His products work, just ask any hunter whose used his lures.
There’s a good reason Black Widow Deer Lures work — it’s all about freshness.
“I won’t compromise on quality and freshness,” said Bogulski. “You will never see Black Widow Deer Lures selling product out of season. I would rather pour last year’s lures down the drain rather than risk quality or reputation. Our lures have a date right on the package for the season in which its use was intended.”
Bogulski started Black Widow in 1997 in his hometown of Evart, MI. Initially he supplied several Michigan stores with fresh deer lure. He’s since moved the company to Florida, but has expanded to sell products in 29 U.S. states and in Canada. Black Widow is the only national lure company to offer different products for northern and southern whitetail deer.
“Black Widow was also the first company to promote and distribute FRESH deer lure on a national level,” added Bogulski.
Black Widow Sales Manager and Pro Staffer Steven Reinhold, of West Salem, OH, says his attraction (sic) to Black Widow started more than three years ago after he tried Bogulski’s product. “I basically bought the product and had good success with it. I’ve been with them three years now,” said Reinhold, who is an avid bowhunter with 16 entries in the Pope and Young record books.
“My job now is to preach the gospel about how good the product is. If I didn’t think it worked, I wouldn’t put my name with it. It’s worked for everyone I’ve talked to about it,” added Reinhold. “It’s really true. It’s as fresh as they say it is.”
Reinhold said Black Widow deer lures are extracted every season. The company’s Website makes this claim. “All Black Widow urines are collected, bottled, and then shipped within days of collection.”
“I know this. If the dealers have products left after a season, they have to send it back or Andy will cut them back as a dealer the next year,” said Reinhold, who is also a regional manager for Mossy Oak.
Besides offering quality deer lure products Reinhold said Black Widow lures sell for a reasonable price. “A three-ounce bottle retails for $14. That’s a fair price,” said Reinhold. “And it works.”
Since the deer lure business has been doing well, Black Widow has expanded into the outdoor television market. After successful filming last fall, Black Widow and ADP Productions (of Carrollton, OH) have joined forces to produce a new hunting show called, “The Widow Makers” that will air on the Pursuit Channel.
Reinhold said he’s excited about the new venture. “It’s real video, down to earth. I think it will do really well,” said Reinhold of “The Widow Makers”, which first airs July 3 (Friday, 8:30 p.m.).
And in mid-August, the show will be available locally (Fridays 7:30 p.m. and Sundays 12:30 p.m.) on Time Warner Cable-channel 365 and 99; Massillon (OH) Cable channel 21 and Clear Picture channel 21. Next season the show could be aired 26 weeks on three other outdoor channels.
“The show will have more hunting and hunting tips, rather than mindless chatter,” said Bogulski.
