Redfield Revolution

When I received a Vanguard Series 2 for writing a review, I had to decide on a suitable optic that would compliment this new rifle. Since the Series 2 is not what I would consider an entry level rifle and it doesn't carry a stiff sticker price, the scope should be comparable. There are quite few quality scopes in the $150 - $200 MSRP range from which to choose. I decided on a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40.

The Redfield Revolution has a lot to offer:

* Redfield scopes are made in Oregon by Leupold & Stevens

* Nitrogen filled to prevent internal fogging

* 100% waterproof, fog proof and shock proof

* Choice of Accu-Range or 4-Plex reticle

* Adjustable zero ring indicator

* 1/4" MOA adjustment for windage and elevation

* Knurled windage and elevation knobs with tactile clicks

* Four versions 2-7x33, 3-9x40, 3-9x50 and 4-12x40

While it doesn't make any difference, I did notice one inconsistency. The power selector ring turns counter-clockwise to go from low to high magnification; most scopes turn clockwise.

The Rapid Target Acquisition (RTA) eyepiece is nice. Nearly every time I would look through the scope, the reticle was centered. I very seldom had to move my head to find the 'sweet spot' and there was ample eye relief.

It is nice to see a full lifetime warranty on Redfield Revolution scopes that will be honored by Leupold & Stevens. Their warranty adds real value to a product. I personally had a Leupold scope that was 30+ years old sent in for a power adjustment ring that was starting to bind; from the day they received it, my Vari-X I was repaired and back to me within a week. One of my hunting partners had a similar positive experience from Leupold with his Vari-X II. With customer service like this, Redfield Revolution scopes get an added advantage.

The MSRP for the 3-9x40 Redfield Revolution with 4-Plex reticle is competitively priced at $159.99.
