Beaver and Otter Trapping Opportunities at Jockey Hollow

November 29, 2012

AKRON, OH - A drawing will be held to select two trappers, each allowed an assistant, for beaver and river otter trapping opportunities on the Consol Energy Agreement Area of Jockey Hollow Wildlife Area in Belmont and Harrison counties. Interested trappers should visit the Moorefield Township Building on Kirkpatrick Road in Moorefield on December 8, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. (for a more accurate GPS location, use Kirkpatrick Road, Flushing, OH).

To be eligible, trappers must be at least 18 years old, be present at the public drawing and possess a current fur taker permit.

Trapping beaver and otter on public lands is by permit only. While most trapping opportunities are held in our annual online drawing, this area was acquired after this year's drawing took place. The Area is currently experiencing some nuisance beaver conflicts necessitating this special in-person drawing. Beaver and otter trapping seasons run December 26 through February 28, 2013 statewide.

Trappers are reminded that this area as well as all other public wildlife areas are open to trapping all other furbearers during the appropriate seasons. Details can be found in the 2012-2013 Hunting and Trapping Regulations.
