Ohio Taxidermy Championships Set for April 5-7

WILMINGTON, OH - The Ohio Taxidermy Association (OTA) will host the 2013 Ohio Taxidermy Championships and Wildlife Display on April 5, 6 and 7, 2013. The State Championships are moving to a new venue, the Roberts Centre, located in Wilmington, Ohio just south of Columbus.

According to OTA press secretary Ed Piaskowski, the venue to benefit everyone involved with the annual event. "Everything is under one roof, including the convention center, luxurious Holiday Inn Hotel, paired with a Max & Erma's Restaurant," said Piaskowski.

"The OTA is continually striving to promote quality taxidermy by affording taxidermists the opportunity to compete, learn, and share ideas with the best of the best. As such, the competition will bring together several hundred of the most artistically crafted wildlife mounts," added Piaskowski.

The OTA Championships will feature several superior taxidermy mounts. This mule deer mount by Steve Mellor won several top honors in 2012.

The Wildlife Display is open to the public one day only, on Saturday (April 6) from 1 to 3 p.m.

The OTA invites taxidermists of all skill levels, including amateurs and youth. Individuals that have never tried taxidermy, but have an interest will benefit greatly by joining OTA and attending the show. The show will feature skilled judges, a wide variety of seminars and great discounts on supplies and tools at the trade show. Members can compete in various divisions, or can choose not to compete. Those participating in the Masters division will have the opportunity to compete for the prestigious Ohio State Champion Medallions.

"It's all about learning, improving skills and making Ohio the best taxidermy state in the nation," said Piaskowski.

The Wildlife Display is open to the public on April 6, 1-3 p.m. Admission is $5.

Taxidermists and anyone wanting to attend seminars or the trade show must join OTA and register and can do so with forms available online or at the show. Registration at the show will begin on April 5 at noon to 7 p.m. and again on April 6 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Pre-registration discounts are available until March 20, 2013.

The public is not required to register to attend the Wildlife Display. The display will include whitetails, game heads, mammals, birds, waterfowl, fish, African and reptiles. Admission is $5.
