PA Outdoor Writers Conference Convenes in Franklin

FRANKLIN, PA - The Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association (POWA) will conducted their 2013 Annual Conference on May 2 5, centered in Franklin, PA. POWA is a professional organization comprised of authors, photographers, nature artists, broadcasters, as well as representatives of such supporting member organizations as resource agencies and companies making products of interest to those active in traditional outdoor sports.

Conference Chair Marilyn Black said, "The Oil Region Alliance, as one of the sponsors of this annual conference, is delighted to have this opportunity to showcase the area's diverse and excellent outdoor recreational opportunities, cultural resources, and friendly hospitality." Other sponsors include the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce, Council on Greenways and Trails, Visit Mercer County PA, Bushnell Outdoor Products, and Black Knight Industries, Inc.

From the conference headquarters at The Quality Inn and Conference Center in Franklin, participants will visit such venues as DeBence Antique Music World, turkey hunting, smallmouth fishing on the Allegheny River, Panfishing on Justus Lake, the Nature Lodge in Two Mile Run County Park, bicycling the Allegheny River Trail, geocaching, an oil history show case, wildlife habitat improvement sites on area gamelands, a clinic on panoramic photography, streamside fishing on Sugar Creek, and May Mart. A special treat for attendees will be meeting the Junior Rifle Team at the Oil City Chapter of the Izaak Walton League at their clubgrounds in Waltonian Park, where conference goers will gather on Saturday afternoon for various skill and product demonstrations. POWA's annual Excellence in Craft Awards will be presented during a Saturday evening banquet.
