February 21, 2014

CHARLESTON, WV - Shavers Fork River, restored to its former state as a world-class brook trout stream, will be showcased on the Outdoor Channel's "Fly Rod Chronicles with Curtis Fleming."

Show host Fleming will be joined by American Sport Fishing Association President Gordon Robertson and former U.S. Rep. Alan Mollohan. The trio will undertake a fishing endeavor to exhibit the stream's thriving trophy catches.

"Shavers Fork River had some of the finest trout waters on the East Coast," said Fleming, a native of Bridgeport, W.Va. "A variety of scientists, biologists and others worked hard to bring this former world class brook trout stream back to its previous condition."

In January 2013, West Virginia Department of Commerce Cabinet Secretary Keith Burdette announced the state would be a title sponsor of "Fly Rod Chronicles" and that several episodes would be filmed on streams, rivers or lakes in the Mountain State.

"Curtis Fleming has a passion for fishing and for his home state of West Virginia. His enthusiasm for both is catching," said Burdette. "The show presents West Virginia's scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities to a national audience."

Commerce agencies that have contributed to the sponsorship and show content are the West Virginia Development Office, Division of Tourism and Division of Natural Resources.

West Virginia is scheduled to appear in another episode the week of March 16. The "Memorial Weekend Celebrating America's Heroes" fishes the waters of Bluestone Canyon with the nation's veterans and West Virginia's country music band Taylor Made.

Each episode of "Fly Rod Chronicles with Curtis Fleming" airs on the Outdoor Channel four times a week: Mondays at 11 a.m.; Fridays at 7 a.m. and noon; and Saturdays at 5:30 p.m.

The Outdoor Channel is known to sportsmen across the country and around the world for its programming on all aspects of the sporting life. Now in its 11th season, "Fly Rod Chronicles" boasts a viewership of nearly 1 million viewers per episode.
