Angelo Perline, Age 14
9pt – Shotgun

By Angelo Perline

I knew I was in a good spot and both me and my dad had a good feeling about the day. After I climbed my tree in the dark I sat waiting for a big buck to come down the trail confident that if he did he was dead. As first light broke at a little after 7 o'clock two does walk pass 20 yards from me but I knew I was in a good spot and I could wait a little longer. Then at 8 o'clock another bigger doe started to come in and as she came closer and closer I decided I would take her. But just as I did on the other side of me I heard rustling and as I looked over my shoulder Mr. Big was coming into my stand. And I turned in my tree stand towards the lane I picked out. As I waited for him to turn broadside the doe nervous from all of my movement and noise blew and sprinted off and as she did the buck looked right at me and I pulled the trigger. He fell instantly to the ground.

10 pt – Bow

By Travis Young

This was the biggest buck with my bow. I was hunting on my friends farm in Belmont County, Ohio. It was a perfect day for hunting and I couldn’t be more excited. It all started on an evening hunt over an open field about 3:30 p.m. About 3:50 p.m. a doe came running out right by my tree stand. I was going to shoot it but it was still early and I was after a buck. It was 4:45 when the first buck came out and there was three more behind it. I couldn’t believe my eyes, three buck in a row. They were all eight points and the last one was a ten point. As soon as I seen it I knew it was the one. It stopped right in front of me about 10 yards and gave me a perfect broad side shot. I drew back and hit it right behind the shoulder. We got out of the tree and started tracking it. It was bleeding like crazy and it only went 50 yards. After that we skinned it out and took it to the taxidermy.

We got in the tree stand at about 6:30. At 9:30 we saw a doe and this huge buck but they were way too far for a shot. So we went to an other farm and I shot at a doe at about 150 yards, and got hair but no blood. After that we went back to our house and ate lunch. We went to the woods but on the way there we saw two does on the way there so we knocked on the door of the person who owned the property, but no one was home. Then we went to our tree stand and sat for three hours until we saw a other deer. Then right at the crack of night I saw this deer at about 500 yards. We watched it for about 20 minutes. Then it was about 100 yards away, then my dad said “shoot it” and I did. I got it!!!!!!!!!! I was so happy: I said, “I got him. I got him.” I shot it with a12-gauge shotgun. I am nine years old. That was one of my best days ever!!!!!!!!!!

Noah Allen, Age 8, 1st Deer
6 pt., Crossbow

By Noah Allen

I woke up on October 14, 2006 just knowing that I was going to get a deer. I was sitting in my tree stand with my crossbow and my dad a half hour before shooting time. A half hour later some turkeys start to move around. I was going to shoot one but they were a little out of range. A half hour later two bucks came toward us. One was a four point and the other a six point. The four point was behind me and the six point was walking towards us.
I was shaking so much and I was so excited. It walked in front of me and it wouldn’t stop. It finally stops about 15 yards in front of me. I shot and hit him straight through the heart. It ran 30 yards and fell down. I was so happy. We got down out of the tree stand and went over to the deer. That’s how I got my first deer.

My first deer season turned out to be good. I shot two deer this season. I shot the first deer on the first day of Youth Gun Season when my dad took me hunting. I sat in the tree stand all day and it was getting late. My dad motioned to me that there were deer coming my way. When I looked back through the trees I saw a big doe. The only shot I had was through the trees. I pulled up my gun, aimed at the doe and shot her. My dad got down out of his tree and told me “good job”. He told me that he saw where the deer went down. We walked over to where I thought the deer was standing when I shot her. My dad said that he could not believe that I made that shot from where I was sitting. I told him, I only had a neck shot so I took it. My dad showed me how to follow a blood trail. I tracked my deer and found it. It was a big doe. My dad helped me to fill out my tag then showed me how to gut a deer. The only bad part was when we had to drag it back to the truck. After we took the deer to check it in, we took it home so I could show the rest of the family. I really like to hunt with my dad. We have fun.

On November 18th, 2006 my dad, uncle Mark and, I went hunting in Jefferson County, Ohio. We set up in my uncle Mark’s favorite spot while my dad went to the other side of the hill to try to drive deer over to our side. At 11:25 a.m. my uncle Mark and I spotted a six point buck and a doe. I was kind of dissapointed that I couldn't get a shot at either of them, but you can't always expect to get a shot at something when your hunting. About five minutes after the two deers left, three more deer came over the hill. This time, they were all three does. One of the doe stopped about 15 yards away and the other two went to the top of the hill and stopped. I knew that I could get a shot at the doe that was 15 yards away so I took the gun, aimed, took the safety off and, fired. I knew I shot the doe when she started running because she was bleeding, she hit a tree and, then just kept running up and over the hill. My dad walkie talkied us and asked if I got the deer, he knew I was the one who took the shot. We told him yes and then he came over and helped us track the doe. We found her 50 yards away over the hill.
